Olugbade Adegoke, the elder brother of Timothy Adegoke, the MBA student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, who died under mysterious circumstances in November, has said he escaped a kidnapping attempt on Saturday.
He told SaharaReporters on Monday that he discovered he was being followed when he went out to get provisions around 9:30 am at his residence in Eruwa, Oyo State.
“It was around that time, I left my home to quickly get provisions. The moment I got what I needed and emerged from the store, I noticed that a car had now been parked very close to the store. The car was not there before I went into the store.
“Then, the men inside that car jumped out and started chasing me. I observed they were four. Two people were chasing me, while one was at the steering with another one was beside him.
“As they were chasing me, I started screaming. I was too scared to know their number, but they were not less than three. They were screaming, ‘That’s him! That’s him!’” Olugbade said.
He said it was the operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), codenamed Amotekun who came to his rescue.
“The Amotekun people were close to the location of the incident,” he said.
“Immediately they saw the Amotekun officers, they ran back into the car they came in and sped off,” he added.
Olugbade who has been asking for justice for his late brother, Timothy, revealed to SaharaReporters that the Amotekun operatives and the police tried to avert doom for him on Saturday.
“The Amotekun and the police really tried. The Amotekun and the DPO (Divisional Police Officer) of Eruwa tried for me. They pursued the suspected kidnappers. They are the ones who rescued me. They have been providing me with protection, both Amotekun and police in Eruwa,” he added.
When asked about the report of the autopsy carried out on his brother, said to be out, he said he still did not know its content.
He added that the FCT Police Command promised to address journalists this week on the matter.
“They have not (told me anything about the autopsy report). They said they are going to tell the whole world probably this week. Their PRO (public relations officer) in Abuja is going to talk to the press about it, and about the investigation so far. They said they will brief the whole world soon,” Olugbade said.
