The White House has defiantly denied reports that US President Donald Trump will fire the Nation’s number one immunologist and Coronavirus taskforce leader Anthony Fauci .
The White House’s denial comes after reports emanated that Trump could fire Fauci following his comments on Sunday suggesting Trump didn’t follow his advice to shutdown the US early hence a great number of lives have been lost to Covid-19.
Trump on seeing Fauci’s comments then retweeted a post calling for Fauci’s sack from the White House coronavirus task force , leading to speculation that Fauci who has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984 could be sacked.
The White House has now released a statement denying Fauci will be sacked even though reports emanated on Monday that Trump had a meeting with his close aides to discuss Fauci’s job.
‘This media chatter is ridiculous—President Trump is not firing Dr. Fauci,’ White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley said in a statement
‘Dr. Fauci has been and remains a trusted advisor to President Trump,’ he added.
The Centers for Disease Control Director Robert Redfield said Monday that he recommended in February some states expand mitigation efforts to combat the coronavirus spread, but lockdowns didn’t begin until March.
‘As February 28 – as we got into March – we recognized the different areas that mitigation was now important,’ Redfield told Today show host Savannah Guthrie.
‘CDC sent recommendations to Washington, to California, to New York and to Florida recommending that they expand mitigation in those areas.’
The US currently has 587,357 confirmed cases, 44,207 recovered cases and 23,649 deaths from Covid-19.
