Zambia’s Health Minister Infected With COVID-19

Zambia announced on Wednesday that the Health Minister of the country had had tested positive for COVID-19.

Dr Chitalu Chilufya has been at the vanguard of the COVID-19 battle in Zambia, giving regular updates and press briefings.

He is the second cabinet member in in the country’s national government to be infected with the virus. 

On Saturday, the country’s Information Minister and chief government spokesperson, Dora Siliya, went public with her status on social media, saying she wanted to distil any possibility of stigmatisation.

Zambia has 920 cases, 336 recoveries, seven deaths and 577 active cases as of May 27, 2020 GMT.

In addition to these figures, local media has reported 137 new cases over the last five days and 433 recoveries.
