TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index slipped in late morning trading as the energy sector swung lower with a fall of crude oil prices.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 20.19 points at 16,142.77.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 62.87 points at 26,903.27. The S&P 500 index was up 1.13 points at 3,258.21, while the Nasdaq composite was down 27.32 points at 10,653.04.
The Canadian dollar traded for 74.45 cents US compared with 74.37 cents US on Thursday.
The September crude contract was down 49 cents at US$41.43 per barrel and the August natural gas contract was down 2.1 cents at US$1.65 per mmBTU.
The August gold contract was up US$10.60 at US$1,854.50 an ounce and the September copper contract was down 4.9 cents at nearly US$2.91 a pound.
