Sources: Padres near deal to acquire Rays’ Snell

The San Diego Padres are finalizing a trade to acquire former Cy Young winner Blake Snell from the Tampa Bay Rays for prospects, sources told ESPN.

The prospective deal would be centered around top pitching prospect Luis Patiño and include catchers Francisco Mejia and Blake Hunt and pitcher Cole Wilcox, sources confirmed to ESPN.

The Athletic was first to report the players going back to the Rays in the deal.
