Face and hand transplant patient: ‘I want to get back to normal living’

Joe DiMeo, the recipient of the world’s first successful face and double hand transplant, has said he wants to get back to “normal living.”

A car crash in 2018 left Mr DiMeo, 22, with third-degree burns over 80% of his body. His fingertips were amputated and he lost his lips and eyelids.

He said his goal was to “move out of my parents’ house again.”
