Southern Kaduna Group Spokesman, Binniyat Blames El-Rufai’s Commissioner, Aruwan For His Illegal Detention, Inhuman Treatment

The spokesperson for the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), Mr Luka Binniyat has accused the Kaduna State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan of ordering his arrest.

He told SaharaReporters on Monday that he had spent four days without trial.

He also expressed fear for his life, saying he might be in danger.

According to Binniyat, the state government took him to Barnawa Chief Magistrate Court after subjecting him to dehumanising cell conditions in the Gabasawa police station in the state.

Binniyat revealed this in a WhatsApp message to SaharaReporters.

Attempts to reach Mr Jonathan Asake, SOKAPU president revealed that his mobile phone was switched off.

Binniyat was arrested last week for writing a story for a US-based online platform, The Epoch Times.

The published report with the headline, “In Nigeria, Police Decry Massacres As ‘Wicked’ But Make No Arrests,” has been viewed by Aruwan as defamation of character.

SOKAPU has often criticised Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s government for allegedly supporting bandits and suspected Fulani herdsmen’s attacks on southern Kaduna people and other insecurity challenges in the state.

“They brought me to Barnawa Chief Magistrate Court, Kaduna and clamped me in a tiny, dinghy, crammed jail with some harden looking criminals.

“I was smuggled here from the police detention facility in Gabasawa Police Cell after four days without trial and dehumanising cell condition.

“I am yet to be taken before a judge. I fear that my life is in danger. I just managed to get this phone. Sam Aruwan had ordered my arrest,” Binniyat stated.
