A Nigerian lady, Joy Shandy Okah has been arrested for trafficking three Nigerian girls to India for prostitution.

SaharaReporters learnt that officials of National Agency for the Prohibition and Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), in collaboration with New Delhi city police arrested Okah and rescued the three girls trafficked from Nigeria.

NAPTIP said Okah, a Nigerian international trafficker, was arrested in New Delhi and three girls were rescued from her.

“Before taking them out of Nigeria, Okah forced the girls to swear to an oath, and after they arrived, she confiscated their mobile phones and travel documents.

“The girls, whose credentials were confirmed to be from Cross River and Edo states in southern Nigeria, paid her N4.5 million each from proceeds of prostitution before they were rescued by officials.

“Delhi police have already completed investigations and she was arraigned in less than 24 hours,” he said.

Speaking on the issue, human rights activist, Halima Nuruddeen, noted, “There is a need to end this menace.”

Comrade Kabir Dakata, the head of CAJA, a non-governmental organisation in Nigeria, also called for more efforts to end the menace.
