Ex-Ondo Lawmaker, Akinlaja, Seven Other Arrested Over Land Grabbing

A  former lawmaker representing Ondo East/West Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Iranola Akinlaja, and seven other persons have been arrested by police for alleged land grabbing in Ondo town.

They were arrested last week by the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department, Panti, Lagos, over land tussle with one Mrs Stella Akinbobola.



The land is a 6,700 acres located at Asin community in Ondo-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

SaharaReporters gathered that
Mrs Akinbobola had earlier written a petition to the SCIID, accusing Akinlaja of forcibly taking her father’s land.

It was gathered that the some thugs loyal to Akinlaja attacked and assaulted some associates of Akinbobola while working on the land.

The situation compelled her to submit a formal petition to the police, accusing the lawmaker of criminal trespass and land grabbing.

The former lawmaker was said to have been taken to the Ondo town Area Command of Nigeria Police where he was interrogated for several hours before being released on self recognition while the seven others were whisked moved to Lagos for further investigations.

The will be charged to court upon the completion of investigation, the police said.
