There is tension in Bature community in Odigbo Local Government Area, Ondo State over the alleged k!lling of a youth leader, Faturoti Eric, following an unlawful raid by men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The NSCDC personnel were seen fully armed and attempting to make an unlawful arrest, which led to resistance from members of the community. The NSCDC opened fire on the unarmed community members, leaving Mr. Faturoti Eric lifeless. The group, in a statement by Sekoni, a brother of the Oloja of Leege, claimed that the incident was incited by a group of individuals, namely Bala, Salisu, and Folorunso Ronke Olufemi. We are peace-loving people; we are law-abiding, Sekoni stated. The community pleaded with the state Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to investigate the incident and ensure that justice is served. “If the government does not take the necessary action over this case of the gruesome murder of one of us, we will be forced to protest and block major roads in Odigbo until justice is served, Sekoni added.
