Two Suspects in Anambra Lawmaker’s Murder Reportedly Escapes from Police Custody

Anambra State Police have confirmed that two suspects connected to the murder of lawmaker Justice Azuka have escaped from custody.

Anambra police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the suspects fled while assisting in an investigation to apprehend a receiver of stolen vehicles used by the criminal gang.

Although the receiver was successfully arrested and two stolen vehicles were recovered, the suspects managed to evade police custody.

Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, was abducted on December 24, 2024. His decomposing body was later discovered on February 6 at the Second Niger Bridge in Onitsha. Nine suspects were initially arrested in connection to the crime.

Following the escape, Anambra Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has deployed intelligence and operational assets to track down the fugitives. He also ordered immediate disciplinary action against officers involved in the escape.
