A lawyer has said that a woman has the right to give her children whatever name she pleases if she is solely responsible for the child.
Nwa Okpoko wrote on Facebook: “Any woman that is solely responsible for the upkeep of a child reserves the right to give the said child whatever name she pleases. You want a stake in your child’s life, please step up. Till then, kindly shut up.”
This comes after a single mother sparked debate when she disclosed that she changed her children’s name to her last name after their biological father stopped taking care of them.
