The legal team representing the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed readiness ahead of a pivotal court session scheduled for May 21st and 22nd. This update was provided by Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, a member of Kanu’s legal team, via a statement shared on Tuesday.
“UPDATE: The Legal Team, including two of our SANs just concluded today’s visitation of MAZI NNAMDI KANU. The visitation is crucial to the continuation of our cross-examination on 21st & 22nd May. We’re primed & ready to rumble,” Ejimakor stated.
The legal visit, which included two Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), was part of preparations for the upcoming court dates, which are expected to play a significant role in the ongoing legal battle surrounding Kanu’s detention and trial.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been in custody since June 2021 following his arrest and extradition to Nigeria. He faces charges related to treasonable felony, terrorism, and incitement, charges he has consistently denied.
The May 21st and 22nd proceedings are anticipated to involve continued cross-examination of key witnesses and could mark a decisive phase in the trial. Supporters of the IPOB leader and human rights observers are closely watching the developments amid growing calls for a fair trial and adherence to due process.
