National assembly suspends plenary sessions to mourn former president Buhari

The National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has announced the suspension of all legislative activities until Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in honour of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London, United Kingdom.


In a statement issued by Kamoru Ogunlana, Clerk to the National Assembly, the leadership of both the Senate and House of Representatives directed that plenary sessions be rescheduled to allow full participation in the burial and related mourning activities of the former President.

The statement also extended heartfelt condolences to the Federal Government and people of Nigeria, Katsina State, as well as to the family of the late President Buhari.

It praised Buhari’s legacy of commitment to national unity and integrity, praying that Almighty Allah grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.

Members of the National Assembly have been urged to rearrange their schedules accordingly during this period of national mourning.
