
At least seven people have been reportedly killed and several others injured following a brutal attack by unknown gunmen in Arondizuogu, Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State.
The assailants, said to be heavily armed and in large numbers, invaded the communities of Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno in the early hours of Thursday, July 25, opening fire indiscriminately on residents.
Eyewitness videos circulating online show graphic scenes of lifeless bodies lying in pools of blood.
Confirming the incident, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, condemned the attack in strong terms, describing it as “barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable.”
He assured the public that the police have intensified efforts to track down the perpetrators, with tactical and intelligence teams already deployed to comb the affected areas.
“The Command has taken proactive security measures to forestall any further attacks and to restore lasting peace in the region,” the CP stated. He emphasized that the situation has now been brought under control.
The police chief also extended condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a swift recovery. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. We urge them to remain strong in this trying time,” he said.
The Imo State Police Command called on members of the public to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant. It also appealed to anyone with useful information that could aid the investigation to come forward.
