TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index gave back some of its recent gains in late-morning trading, while the price of oil and the loonie both traded higher.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 270.75 points at 14,957.36.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 195.50 points at 24,438.36. The S&P 500 index was down 17.14 points at 2,922.37, while the Nasdaq composite was up 1.83 points at 8,916.54.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.03 cents US compared with an average of 71.83 cents US on Wednesday.
The June crude contract was up US$2.54 at US$17.60 per barrel and the June natural gas contract was up nearly five cents at nearly US$1.92 per mmBTU.
The June gold contract was up US$6.80 at US$1,720.20 an ounce and the July copper contract was down two cents at nearly US$2.35 a pound.
