Days after the attacks on 11 September 2001, the internet was rife with fake claims of what happened on the day. Many were quickly dismissed as silly hoaxes, but others were rooted in racism and anti-Semitism and conspiracies of collusion by the deep state.
Twenty years later they are a powerful reminder of how the internet can be manipulated to distort the truth.
