Lagos Begins Prosecution Of International Travellers For Evading COVID-19 Test

The prosecution of inbound international passengers who fail to submit themselves for Day Two and Day Seven PCR tests as mandated by the Federal COVID-19 protocols and guidelines has commenced in Lagos State.

The state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, who made this known on Tuesday, disclosed that the state government had started contacting the defaulting passengers and patients for arraignment before a mobile court for special offenders.

He noted that previous waves were associated with non-compliance of inbound passengers with the testing guidelines.

SaharaReporters had last week reported that three additional cases of the Omicron Variant of COVID-19 were detected in Nigeria.

This had been confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

According to a statement by Ifedayo Adetifa, the NCDC director-general, the new cases were detected in individuals with recent travel history to South Africa.

The British High Commission had same week said it would pause making decisions on visitor visa applications from all red list countries including Nigeria.

Nigeria had been added by the United Kingdom to a red list over Omicron, a variant of Coronavirus, although the ban had now been lifted.
