Security Operatives Have Gone After Those Who Burnt My Farm, Ex-President Obasanjo Says

Nigeria’s former President, Olusegun Obasanjo says those who burnt his farm in Benue State will be fished out and prosecuted by security agencies.

On Saturday, some local arsonists reportedly burnt his 2,420 hectares of farmland at Howe in the Aliade area of Gwer East Local Government of Benue State.

He had acquired about 2,420 hectares of farmland in the community, where he planted fruits such as mango and orange.

However, some indigenes, who claimed they were not compensated for the land, had allegedly burnt the farm.

Aside from the arson attack, the assailants also assaulted and robbed the firefighters deployed in the area to put out the fire.

Reacting in a statement on Tuesday, Obasanjo condemned the incident which he described as a bad development.

A statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Tuesday, and titled ‘Obasanjo condemns burning of farm in Benue,’ said those responsible for the arson attack would be arrested and prosecuted.

Obasanjo said, “The local and state governments, including the security agencies in the state, have taken up the issue, with a view to fishing out the perpetrators and prosecuting them.”
