Overzealous Police Officers Brutalise Nigerian Students During Protest On University Lecturers, ASUU Strike

Officers of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command on Monday attacked some members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) who protested in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The students were protesting against the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Led by NANS National President, Sunday Asefon, the protesters gathered on Monday morning at Unity Fountain in Abuja, displaying various placards and chanting songs of solidarity.
From the Unity Fountain, the Nigerian students marched to the National Assembly where they were attacked by security operatives stationed at the complex gate.
One of those attacked and the chief of staff to the NANS President, Idowu Odebunmi said, “Today I was molested, beaten, injured by security men for attempting to lock the National Assembly Gate during NANS protest against ASUU strike.
“Let the history judge us in future. The upcoming generation must not pass through what we are experiencing.”
NANS, had last week issued a one-week ultimatum to the Nigerian government to resolve its disagreement with ASUU or face a national mass action by Nigerian students across the country.
