The United States has returned $52.88 million in assets linked to former Nigerian Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke.

This was made known at a signing ceremony in Abuja on Friday, by Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.

Fagbemi explained that $50 million of the recovered funds will be allocated to a rural electrification project through the World Bank, while the remaining $2 million will go to the International Institute of Justice to strengthen the judicial system and fight corruption.

He also highlighted that this asset recovery marks a significant step in the ongoing partnership between Nigeria and the United States to combat corruption and uphold the rule of law.
