Tinubu renames university of Maiduguri after late Muhammadu Buhari

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the renaming of the University of Maiduguri to Muhammadu Buhari University, in honour of his late predecessor.

The announcement came during a special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session held in Abuja to pay tribute to the former president. Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga shared the development via his X (formerly Twitter) account.

Tinubu described Buhari as a disciplined patriot and said the university’s location in a once insurgency-hit region symbolizes the resilience and values Buhari stood for.

While some Nigerians welcomed the move, others urged wider consultation with education stakeholders. Implementation details are expected soon.
