A well-known businessman, Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as “Fish Magnet,” has been killed by suspected kidnappers despite the payment of a ransom by his family.

Onyekere, who was reportedly the son of a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was abducted on Saturday night during a violent invasion of his residence in the Ezinifite community of Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the compound under the cover of darkness and forcefully took him away, firing sporadically into the air as they fled through nearby bush paths leading toward Nawfia.
According to Punch Metro, it was revealed that a resident who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “It was a terrifying moment. They shot their way in and out. We later heard he had been killed even after the family paid a ransom, though the amount was not disclosed.”
The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and security agencies have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident or any arrests made.
The gruesome murder has sparked outrage and fear in the community, with residents calling on authorities to intensify efforts to curb the growing spate of violent crimes in the state.
