Six years after the tragic events at Lekki Toll Gate, the memories remain painful, the wounds remain open, and the demand for justice remains unanswered. For me, #EndSARS is deeply personal. I nearly lost my beloved wife, Dr. Erica Nwanyanwu, who suffered a cardiac arrest just hours after we covered the horrifying news of the Lekki Toll Gate massacre. That night changed our lives forever. As we remember the courageous young Nigerians who stood up against police brutality, oppression and injustice, we must ask ourselves: What has really changed? The police brutality, abuse of power, corruption, impunity and bad governance that brought Nigerian youths onto the streets in 2020 remain serious concerns today. My message to the Nigerian government is simple: You cannot silence the demand for justice without addressing the injustice itself. The issues that gave birth to #EndSARS have not disappeared.
