Elon Musk restarts Tesla factory in defiance of county orders

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that his company will start production of cars at its U.S. assembly factory in Fremont, California on Monday, despite the stay-at-home order issued by Alameda County to slow the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

Musk said in a tweet Monday afternoon that : ‘Tesla is restarting production today against Alameda County rules. I will be on the line with everyone else. If anyone is arrested, I ask that it only be me.’

Musk has argued that restrictions put in place by Alameda County closing non-essential businesses, where Tesla’s Fremont factory is based, are overly aggressive and unconstitutional.

On Saturday, the company filed a federal lawsuit against the county, seeking injunctive relief, an effort to invalidate orders that have prevented the automaker from reopening.

Later that evening, Tesla issued a back to work plan in a 37-page document that outlines how it intends to restart production while keeping employees safe and preventing the potential spread of COVID-19
