Sources: Ferguson suffered orbital fracture in loss

Tony Ferguson suffered an orbital bone fracture during Saturday’s main event loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249, multiple sources told ESPN.

UFC president Dana White first revealed the injury to Yahoo Sports.

The injury, sources say, will require surgery, but it hasn’t been scheduled. Ferguson was discharged from a Jacksonville, Florida, hospital early Monday morning. That was the only major injury he suffered in the fight, which saw him absorb a lot of damage for almost five rounds.

Gaethje defeated Ferguson via fifth-round TKO to win the interim UFC lightweight champion. The loss snapped Ferguson’s 12-fight winning streak.
