Canopy Growth says two top executives have left the cannabis firm

SMITHS FALLS, ONT. — Canopy Growth Corp. says two of its top executives have left the company.

The Smiths Falls, Ont.,-based cannabis company says chief operating officer Andre Fernandez and chief commercial officer Dave Bigioni have departed from the firm.

Canopy’s vice-president of communications, Jordan Sinclair, says in an email that the departures were mutual decisions and a search to fill their roles has begun.

Fernandez says in a LinkedIn post that he worked for Canopy for four and a half years and was its 181st employee.

He says he is very happy with his choice and feels now was the time to move on because the long nights and weekends at work took their toll.

His and Bigioni’s departures come after former Constellation Brands chief financial officer David Klein became CEO earlier this year and after Canopy laid off just shy of 800 workers in recent months.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published May 12, 2020.
