Sources: Betts, Dodgers near long-term contract

Star outfielder Mookie Betts and the Los Angeles Dodgers are deep into negotiations on a long-term contract, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Wednesday.

While the language of the deal is not completed, the expectation is that Betts will be signing a massive deal with the Dodgers in the coming days.

Betts joined the Dodgers alongside David Price as part of a five-player trade with the Boston Red Sox in February and had four weeks with his new team before the coronavirus pandemic delayed the 2020 season.

Betts, a four-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove Award winner, hit .295/.391/.524 and finished eighth in American League MVP voting in 2019. He won the 2018 MVP award after hitting .346/.438/.640 during Boston’s championship-winning season.

WEEI first reported that Betts and the Dodgers were close on a long-term contract.
