Jorge Masvidal set for televised cornhole challenge against top pro

Jorge Masvidal will proudly tell you that he’ll take on all comers.

Apparently that includes in cornhole, too.

Masvidal, one of the most popular fighters in the UFC, will face American Cornhole League champion Cody Henderson at 8 p.m. E.T. Wednesday on ESPN2. Masvidal and Henderson met at the Super Bowl’s Radio Row in Miami, with the two playing several rounds that Henderson easily won. According to a press release by the league, Henderson gave Masvidal some tips and they agreed to play again.

“I’ve done a lot of great things in this life and I have to thank God for this characteristic that he gave me is that I like to push myself,” Masvidal told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani. “So I have the opportunity to compete against the Tiger Woods of this s—. Am I good at cornhole? No. These guys that compete, I’ve been talking to these guys, sizing them up, doing the math and they’ve spent hours and hours a day playing since they were kids. Some of them since they were 5, 6 years old.”

Masvidal, on the other hand, said he first played cornhole about five years ago at a barbecue. He doesn’t play often, but he couldn’t resist the challenge of playing one of America’s elite players.

The rules will be altered to level the playing field. According to the league, the five-round match will start with Masvidal being spotted 15 points, and if a player reaches 21 points by the end of Round 5, that will be considered a knockout. If no player achieves a knockout by the end of Round 5, it will go to the scoreboard to determine the winner by decision.

Always confident, Masvidal said he has envisioned getting his hand raised Wednesday.

But with a laugh, the “BMF” champ also suggested that he is a realist.

“I’m putting my money on that dude.”
