Experts’ picks for the West play-in and Round 1 of the NBA playoffs

The NBA playoffs might not officially start until Monday, but postseason intensity will hit Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex two days early.

After a thrilling Thursday of seeding-game action, the Portland Trail Blazers and Memphis Grizzlies clinched spots in the Western Conference play-in round. (Game 1 is 2:30 p.m. ET on ABC, and if the No. 9-seeded Grizzlies win, it forces a decisive Game 2 Sunday at 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.)

The victory secures a meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers, but every other opening-round series is set. How many sweeps will there be? Will we see a historic upset inside the neutral environment of the NBA’s Florida bubble?

Our experts are making their predictions for the West play-in and every first-round matchup.

Note: Memphis must defeat Portland twice to advance. The play-in winner will face the top-seeded Los Angeles Lakers in Round 1. Experts’ picks for the Western Conference 1 vs. 8 matchup will be added following the play-in round.
