Lions RB Swift out with concussion vs. Texans

DETROIT — Lions running back D’Andre Swift will not play in Thursday’s game against the Houston Texans.

The rookie suffered a concussion at some point last week — the Lions have not made it clear when Swift suffered the injury — and has been out since. With only walk-throughs due to the short week, Swift was upgraded to limited practice Tuesday and Wednesday and had been listed as questionable to play against the Texans.

But he was listed as inactive prior to the game.

Swift had just taken over the starter role before the injury, gaining 149 yards from scrimmage with a touchdown against Washington on Nov. 15.

With Swift out, the Lions will use a combination of Kerryon Johnson and Adrian Peterson at running back. Peterson leads the Lions with 389 rushing yards this season.

Detroit also signed wide receiver Mohamed Sanu to the active roster Wednesday and put starting guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai on injured reserve. Vaitai had been dealing with a foot injury, and the Lions need Sanu with wide receivers Kenny Golladay and Danny Amendola out against the Texans.
