Customized Air Jordans raise more than $500K for Portland children’s hospital

Seventeen pairs of unique Air Jordan sneakers were auctioned off Sunday, with proceeds of more than half a million dollars going to benefit a children’s hospital in Portland, Oregon.

The annual event at Oregon Health and Science University Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, in partnership with Nike designers, provides patients an opportunity to create customized shoes and apparel, according to the Oregonian. This year’s top prize, dubbed the “What The” Air Jordan 1, was a mashup of the winning designs from previous years.

The total raised from the 17 pairs of sneakers was $565,000, with the highest-selling pair going for $52,900.

The program has raised $29 million since 2003, according to the Oregonian.
