Officials Rescue Two More Persons In Lagos Building Collapse

Another two persons trapped in 360 Degrees, the 21-storey building which collapsed in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State, have been removed from the debris of the structure.
SaharaReporters learnt that the victims were evacuated on Tuesday morning as search and rescue operation continued.

“Two people have just been rescued alive,” an official told SaharaReporters.

SaharaReporters had on Monday evening reported that no fewer than four persons were brought out dead form the rubble while four others injured were also rescued.

Earlier when SaharaReporters contacted NEMA spokesman, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, he had said the number of casualties could not be provided as rescue was still ongoing.

A video made by Arise News had showed sympathisers milling around the collapsed building when the tragedy struck.
One of them could be heard saying, “Even the owner of the house, Mr Gbadebo is there.”
But the latest reports revealed that rescue operators comprising officials of NEMA, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, police, among others were still making efforts to save other victims.
The building which was still under construction caved in at about 2pm on Monday, burying workers at the sight.
Farinloye added that efforts were being made to invite the military to take over the operation.
He said, “Three persons have been brought out alive so far. We don’t know how many are still trapped. Meanwhile, we are moving in the Military to take over operations because it is beyond the capacity of the civil operators.
“We don’t want it to be like the Synagogue case where it took seven to eight days.”
Meanwhile, three other persons rescued were currently being treated by the medical team of the Lagos State General Hospital.
Farinloye said the bodies have been moved to a morgue owned by the state government.
“The deceased bodies were pulled out from under the rubble,” he said.
