University Of Osun Workers Perform ‘Mock Funeral’ For Ex-Vice Chancellor Over Highhandedness

Some staff members of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN) on Friday staged a mock funeral ceremony as a farewell to the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Prof Labode Popoola who they described as a tyrant administrator.

According to Daily Post, Popoola’s tenure ended on November 4, 2021, after which the Governing Council appointed Professor Adefemi Afeez Bello as the Acting Vice-Chancellor.

The workers who fried bean cake swept the premises of the Vice-Chancellor’s office to the school gate and later ate the bean cake as a sign of good-bye to Popoola while dancing and singing.

They hung a banner on the Senate Building of the campus bearing the picture of Popoola and the inscriptions read, “With gratitude to God, the entire staff of Osun State University celebrate the inglorious exit of a mischievous tyrant, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Labode Popoola.”

The Chairman of NASU, Comrade Isaiah Fayemi, alleged that the former VC interdicted workers for protesting against his alleged corrupt practices, adding that the Chairman of Joint Action Committee of the university, Comrade Lekan Adiat and five others are currently interdicted.

“Popoola is a VC that came and used his position to victimise us, to withhold our salaries, and that is why we are celebrating his exit. We are happy that he is gone and gone forever,” Fayemi said.

However, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Ademola Adesoji berated the action of the staff, adding that the majority of the staff and students of the UNIOSUN loved the former VC.

Adesoji claimed that Prof Laboode with his exceptional performances earned him life patron honour from the Students Union, gifts from the alumni association and commendations from the staff of the institution.

He said, “Students and staff of UNIOSUN love Pro Laboode. The student union gave him an award and made him their patron, the alumni also gave him gifts and lauded him for performing excellently.”
