Inspector-General Appoints New Commissioner Of Police For Ondo

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has approved the immediate posting of Oyediran Oyeyemi to head the Ondo State Command as the new Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the state.
According to a release from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, obtained by SaharaReporters, Oyeyemi’s posting followed the retirement of CP Bolaji Amidu Salami, the erstwhile Commissioner of Police in the state.

“The new Commissioner of Police, CP Oyediran, who was until this deployment the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Railway Police Command, was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force in 1990.
“The IGP charged the new Commissioner of Police to bring his vast administrative, operational and intelligence gathering experience to bear, in consolidating and improving on the achievements of his predecessor, towards ensuring increased public safety and security of lives and property in Ondo State. He further called on the Government and good people of Ondo State to give the new Police chief maximum support and collaboration in his new role,” Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer said.
The police boss is coming at a time when Ondo is having its fair share of the gruelling insecurity that has ravaged the entire country.
SaharaReporters had earlier today reported that youths in Owo Kingdom in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State staged a protest over the killing of a high chief in the community, Tunde Ilori Elerewe, by unknown gunmen.
SaharaReporters had gathered that Elerewe was murdered in the community while returning from where he and some other chiefs had gone to settle a dispute on the order of the Olowo Of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye.
Another chief whose name was not revealed was also shot by the gunmen and is currently receiving treatment at a health facility in the town.
The youths, chanting different songs, had blocked the roads at the First Bank area of Owo where the deceased controlled before his death. The protesters also burnt tyres to express their displeasure at the situation.
They had urged security agencies to wade into the issue promptly and bring the perpetrators to justice.
