Nigerian First Lady, Aisha Buhari Attends Senate Plenary

Nigeria’s first lady, Aisha Buhari, was on Wednesday at the National Assembly to attend a plenary session in the Senate.

She was in the Senate to observe the laying of the report of the Constitution Review to be done by the Committee headed by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

Mrs Buhari attended the plenary to throw her weight behind an item for amendment in the 1999 constitution which seeks specific seats to be created for female legislators.

The First Lady was accompanied to the Chambers by the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Pullen Tallen; Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed and some of her personal aides.

Upon her arrival, the Senate suspended the order at exactly 12.00 pm to allow the first lady and her entourage to enter the Senate chambers.

Omo-Agege had earlier on Tuesday announced that the Senate Committee on Constitution Amendment will lay the report of the 1999 Constitution review before the Senate on Wednesday, February 23.

Federal lawmakers are also expected to vote on the amendments on March 1.
