MacArthur Foundation President Opens Digital TV Studio For Bayero University Kano

The President of MacArthur Foundation, John Palfrey, on Tuesday paid a visit to Kano State to commission a multi-million dollar TV station at the Faculty of Communication of the Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

Palfrey visited the school alongside the Director of the Africa Office, Dr. Kole Shettima, amid other team members of the MacArthur Foundation from Chicago and Abuja.

Speaking at the occasion, the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Sagir Adamu Abbas, said the MacArthur Foundation, had over the last 15 years helped to advise and partner with the university in the conception and implementation of many important projects that were genuinely critical in the academic and systemic development of the University.

According to him, the Mac Arthur Foundation ranks high in contributing to the growth and development of the institution in recent times after the Federal Government of Nigeria and possibly the World Bank.

“Its interventions have impacted positively in staff development, advancement office, information and communication technologies centre and quality of contents of programmes as well as facilities in our Faculties as evidently manifested at our Centre for Dryland Agriculture, Centre for Information Technologies and lately, the Faculty of Communication,” he said.

Abbas added, “The intervention has enabled us to introduce courses in investigative and data journalism with opportunities for practical performance in our radio and now television stations. Over all, Nigeria is the ultimate beneficiary of the intervention as the trained students will graduate to work as professionals that will help in checking corruption in the country.”
