IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu Rejects Claims of Ties to October 2020 #EndSARS Protests

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has denied any involvement in the October 2020 #EndSARS protests or the destr¥ction of properties in Lagos State.

The denial came through a video played during his ongoing trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday. The prosecution, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Adegboyega Awomolo, continued its case with a second witness—an agent of the Department of State Services (DSS).

As part of the proceedings, the court viewed a video recording from July 17, 2021, in which DSS operatives interviewed Kanu at the agency’s Abuja headquarters. In the footage, he was asked whether his broadcast on October 20, 2020, incited v+ol£nce and d£str¥ction in Lagos.

Kanu firmly rejected the claim, saying, “I swear in the name of God that created heaven and earth, I have no hand and I know absolutely nothing in whatever form about the r+ot and d£str¥ction that happened in Lagos during #EndSARS.”

He added, “If I have authority over people, I won’t be calling for a referendum. I would have just woken up one day and say let’s create Biafra.”

Kanu also pointed out that Lagos is not within Biafra territory, suggesting events there are unrelated to him.

Justice James Omotosho adjourned the case to May 14, 21, and 22 for further hearings.
