The family of a young man, Qudus, is demanding justice and accountability after the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) allegedly insisted on a N1.9 million payment before releasing his body despite the family having paid over N3 million during his 15-day stay in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), without owing a kobo.
In an emotional outburst, that has went viral online, Qudus’ sister described the hospital’s demand as heartless and exploitative, especially considering their 85-year-old father is now being burdened with further grief and financial strain.
“Our brother died despite all our efforts and daily payments exceeding N200,000. Yet LUTH wants N1.9 million more just to release his corpse. How do you treat people like this?” she lamented.
She further criticized the hospital’s ethics, saying: “LUTH shouldn’t even be called a hospital anymore. What they’re doing to families is pure wickedness.”
The hospital is yet to release any official statement as at the time of filling this report.
