The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, Oba AbdulFatai Oyeyinka Aremu Aromire Oyegbemi, has relieved six high-ranking chiefs of their positions for attending a political campaign without royal approval.
The monarch made the decision public following a critical palace meeting held on Monday, June 30, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Palace Media Office, the affected chiefs attended the Labour Party’s campaign flag-off in the Apapa area of Lagos State without first seeking the king’s consent.
The dethroned chiefs are:
Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale Alaba Oro)
Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale Alafia Dodoro)
Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale Oke Ira)
Chief Idris Ojora (Bale Abule Kere)
Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale Mosafejo Amukoko)
Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere)
“Following the unfolding of this event without prior royal notification, His Royal Majesty summoned the Bales, Balogun, and members of the Ojora Council to his palace for explanation and clarification,” the statement read.
Expressing his displeasure, Kabiyesi Oba Oyegbemi emphasized that all traditional leaders within the kingdom are bound by duty to uphold customs, consult appropriately, and refrain from independently involving themselves in politically sensitive activities. He warned that any chief acting without royal clearance would face the consequences.
The palace statement added: “This disciplinary action reflects Kabiyesi’s unwavering commitment to preserving unity, discipline, and integrity within the leadership structure of Ojora and Iganmu Kingdom.”
