Nats’ Strasburg to have season-ending surgery

Washington Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg will undergo season-ending surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome in his pitching hand, manager Dave Martinez told reporters Saturday.

Strasburg, 32, has been placed on the 60-day injured list. His 2020 season consisted of two starts, including a 16-pitch outing in his final appearance against the Baltimore Orioles on Aug. 14.

The reigning World Series MVP was 0-1 in five innings over two starts, with a 10.80 ERA and two strikeouts.

In a related move, the Nationals called up right-hander Wil Crowe to be the 29th man for Saturday’s doubleheader against the Miami Marlins.

Crowe, 25, will make his major league debut when he starts Game 2.
