Gen. Tsiga Regains Freedom After 56 Days in Captivity

Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga (Rtd), former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has regained his freedom after spending 56 days in captivity.

Tsiga was abducted alongside nine other residents on February 5, 2025, from his hometown in Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State.

After weeks of negotiations and the payment of ransom by his family, Tsiga remained in captivity despite earlier expectations of his release. While initial reports suggested a ransom of ₦60 million, a report by Daily Trust indicated that the actual amount paid was nearly three times higher.

A close family source revealed that after receiving the ransom, the kidnappers went silent for a week before finally allowing Tsiga to speak with his family.

“The money was delivered to them, but they only called us a week later—on March 11—to let us hear his voice,” a source told Daily Trust.

According to the source, Tsiga was released in Zamfara State, from where he would be transported to Abuja.

A top military officer confirmed the development, stating that Tsiga is in good health and safe following his ordeal.
