Reps Approve President Tinubu Request To Borrow N53bn For Lagos/Calabar Coastal Road

The House of Representatives has approved a $21.8 billion borrowing plan for the federal government, including an additional $47 million for the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and $300 million for the Nigeria Universal Communications Access Project.

The package also includes €2.19 billion and ¥15 million.

Chairman of the Committee on Aids, Loans and Debt Management, Hon. Abubakar Nalaraba, presented the report, which was adopted during the Committee on Supply session.

The House also approved the 2025 budget of ₦105.1 billion for the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), based on a report submitted by Hon. James Faleke, Chair of the Finance Committee.

In plenary, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announced the formation of 15 ad hoc committees to tackle key national issues such as flooding, border security, drug abuse, cryptocurrency regulation, and agricultural subsidies.

Also, three PDP lawmakers—Hon. Taofeek Ajilesoro, Hon. Omirin Olusanya (Osun), and Hon. Marcus Onobun (Edo)—formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing unresolved party crises.

The House adjourned for its eight-week annual recess and will reconvene on September 23, 2025.
