Smith, Teixeira make weight for Wednesday bout

The light heavyweight main event of Wednesday’s UFC Fight Night is official because Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira successfully weighed in at the host hotel in Jacksonville, Florida, on Tuesday morning.

Smith stepped on the scale at 205 pounds and Teixeira came in at 205.5. The limit for a nontitle light heavyweight bout is 206 pounds.

The fight card takes place at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena and will be televised by ESPN+. The main card begins at 9 p.m. ET, the prelims at 6 p.m.

The 31-year-old Smith (32-14) has won three of his past four bouts. Teixeira (30-7), 40, has won three in a row.

Both men are former challengers of 205-pound champion Jon Jones.

Only one of the 22 fighters on the card missed weight. Karl Roberson weighed in at 187.5, a pound and a half over the limit for his middleweight bout with Marvin Vettori. The fight will go on, according to the UFC, with Roberson surrendering 20% of his purse to Vettori.

This event is the second of three in a week at VyStar. The UFC returned to action Saturday after an eight-week absence during the coronavirus pandemic. Justin Gaethje was the UFC 249 main event winner over Tony Ferguson, earning an interim lightweight title belt. The UFC also has a Fight Night this Saturday, headlined by a heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris.
