40-year-old taxi driver dies of COVID-19 in Niger state

Niger State has recorded its first COVID-19 death. 

The State Commissioner for Health and Hospital Services, Dr. Muhammad Makusidi, who disclosed this in Minna earlier today, said the deceased is a 40-year-old taxi driver plying Suleja- Abuja route. He was diabetic and died shortly on arrival at the Suleja- General Hospital.

The Commissioner said a postmortem sample was taken for test and it returned positive. Makusidi said contact tracing will commence with immediate effect.

The Commissioner also disclosed that seven Almajiri returnees from Zaria, Kaduna State have tested positive for the virus and are currently receiving treatment at the state Isolation center.

So far, Niger State has a total of 22 confirmed cases.
