TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index posted a triple-digit advance in early trading, fuelled by a broad-based rally, while U.S. stock markets also climbed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 125.62 points at 16,034.07.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 340.06 points at 26,982.65. The S&P 500 index was up 34.48 points at 3,232.00, while the Nasdaq composite was up 94.64 points at 10,583.22.
The Canadian dollar traded for 73.67 cents US compared with 73.44 cents US on Tuesday.
The August crude contract was up 22 cents at US$40.51 per barrel and the August natural gas contract was up nearly a penny at US$1.75 per mmBTU.
The August gold contract was down US$9.10 at US$1,804.30 an ounce and the September copper contract was down nearly two cents at US$2.91 a pound.
