Forrest Lamp’s lamp and other unusual athlete endorsements

In one of the easiest scores in endorsement history, Los Angeles Chargers offensive lineman Forrest Lamp has unveiled a lamp sponsorship. Manufacturer Lamps Plus will be creating the Forrest Sequoia lamp, which stands at just over 5 feet tall, made from resin that looks like a tree trunk with a painted faux wood finish.

You might not think of lamps when you think of a NFL lineman, but you definitely think of lamps when you hear the name Forrest Lamp. In honor of this hilarious but fitting sponsorship, we decided to take a look at some of the more interesting athlete sponsorships, endorsements, and partnerships out there today.

Conor McGregor and Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey

This one seems like a match made in heaven, and in many ways, it is: arguably the most popular fighter in the world today using any opportunity, including interviews and news conferences, to at least mention Proper No. 12 and often lead a toast. The name Proper No. 12 is also a short biography for Conor McGregor: a man proud of his Irish heritage fronting “Proper” Irish whiskey. His hometown, Crumlin, a suburb of Dublin, falls within postal area “Dublin 12,” hence “Proper No. 12”.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Kentucky Fried Chicken

If Conor McGregor pitching you Irish whiskey seems like one of the most on-brand collaborations you can get from an athlete, Cristiano Ronaldo and KFC seems like the exact opposite. When you think KFC, you think of the white-haired, bespectacled, full-faced Col. Sanders (the real one, not the Mario Lopez version), not a soccer megastar who looks like he has never even tasted fried chicken.

Still, between 2013 and 2016, CR7 became the face of KFC Arabia, appearing in ads where he bit into KFC chicken and acted like he loved it. Ronaldo has had numerous sponsorships throughout his career, including fitness products, which seem much more up his alley. Even if it’s for this really odd-looking face fitness thing from Japan.

Tom Brady and UGG

At first glance, you might think that one of the greatest players in NFL history wouldn’t necessarily be your first choice to wear UGGs, boots that you would have an easier time finding at an Instagram photo shoot than an NFL training facility. But Tom Brady has been a fan of the brand and it’s slippers, wearing them since his teenage years. Brady became so associated with the brand that it even put a humongous image of him on a building near Madison Square Garden in 2012.

Patrick Mahomes, Hunt’s Ketchup

This might be a tough pill to swallow for a lot of people — ketchup is one of those things where you become brand-loyal to a fault. But regardless where on the aisle you fall, we can all come together to appreciate the greatest condiment in human history.

Enter the MVP.

Reigning Super Bowl champ Patrick Mahomes is a ride-or-die ketchup fan, admitting that he has gotten the good stuff as birthday gifts in the past. He loves it so much, he even puts ketchup on his steak and mac and cheese. Hunt’s Ketchup seized the opportunity and landed one of the most obvious endorsements ever.
