Mr Charlebois noted that while palm fat is a legal and approved ingredient in butter, research shows that it can increase heart disease risks for consumers and that its production harms the environment, making it an “ethically questionable” practice for the dairy industry, which is heavily subsidised by Canadian taxpayers.
