Nollywood Actor, Chiwetalu Agu Speaks From Army Detention After Arrest For Allegedly Wearing Pro-Biafra Regalia

Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu has denied campaigning for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) before being arrested by soldiers.

Agu disclosed this at the 82 Division of the Nigeria Military base he was taken to after his arrest.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported that some soldiers accosted and arrested the veteran Nollywood actor who was allegedly wearing Biafra regalia in Onitsha, Anambra state.

In a viral video obtained by the newspaper, the 65-year-old Agu was seen around Upper Iweka Bridge donning the Biafra outfit and walking near a green bus when two armed soldiers wrestled him to the ground.

It was gathered that the actor was in Onitsha on a charity mission where he regularly gifts the less privileged with food items when he was arrested by soldiers.

Speaking on the incident, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army Public Relations had said Agu was apprehended for inciting members of the public and soliciting support for IPOB.

Speaking in a trending video at the military base, the actor said he was not campaigning or asking people to join Biafra.

“I can wear this, my vehicle is parked at the centre of Upper Iweka, this is rising sun (touching his regalia), not Biafra, not Eastern Security Network. With my education, I know area to go, I know area not to go,” he said.

“I was buying bread, N10,000 bread, sharing them one by one, no campaign, nothing, N10 thousand worth of bread when he came. Nobody was doing demonstration or carrying people along.”
