S&P/TSX composite up in late-morning trading, U.S. stock markets also climb

TORONTO –

Canada’s main stock index ticked higher in late-morning trading helped by gains in the energy, industrial and technology sectors, while U.S. stock markets also climbed higher.

The S&P/TSX composite index was up 14.00 points at 20,942.10.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 26.93 points at 35,321.69. The S&P 500 index was up 11.79 points at 4,483.16, while the Nasdaq composite was up 49.67 points at 14,947.01.

The Canadian dollar traded for 80.85 cents US compared with 80.78 cents US on Friday.

The December crude contract was up 11 cents at US$81.84 per barrel and the November natural gas contract was down 20 cents at US$5.21 per mmBTU.

The December gold contract was up US$1.40 at US$1,769.70 an ounce and the December copper contract was down three cents at US$4.70 a pound.
